Built in 1971 as Austin, Texas’s first suburban mall, the 575,00-sq.-ft. Highland Mall suffered from regional competition and growing vacancy. Austin Community College took over in 2014, opening a tech learning lab called ACCelerator as well as classrooms, library and media center.
